There are 2 kinds of titles in Guild Wars:

Those that serve no functionality whatsoever in-game (eg. Cartography)
And those that do (eg. Lightbringer)

Those that have no functionality have just one purpose: Self respect, and nothing more. You really need to accept that not everyone is going to achieve the titles in the exact same way as you, so it is honestly much easier to accept your own accomplishments with titles in your own manner, and not compare the methods of achievement with others.

Afterall, it is a casual (albeit painstaking) title to go after.

Now, if only having this title allowed your character +15% movement speed on that continent! Permanently! Now that'd be in-game functionality for ya

The way i see it,

Why spend weeks trying to acomplish something, when you can take a easier way and acomplish it in a few days with the same result?
Sure if the reward for doing it the hard way is better then go for it, but if its the exact same, witch it is for GMC whats the point in going the hard way?

I'll ask again: How is it lazy to have an easier and more detailed reference for cartographing? The only things these mods are doing is making it less annoying, not any less tedious. The cartographer isn't having their maps explored for them, they just no longer have to compare maps and be able to reduce their bloodpressure thanks to the markings on the maps.

I'd consider it lazy if what these mods did for people was actually map for them. But they don't do that, the person still has the task of having to map every nook and cranny.

Your using a tool and/or aid to modify the actual game to accomplish a task which can be completed without them. That is lazey!!!

If this mod was originally part of the game and it was an option to activate it and use it, then I would say otherwise. How ever this tool and/or mod isnt part of the game. Your using resources from an external source to mod the gaming code.

Any person who uses a mod ingame to complete a task which can be done without using it, is being lazey!

Im not saying they havent the right to be lazey, and their welcome to. But I think its fair to say that I (who accomplished legendary cartographer before the mod even existed) can have more pride in my LG then someone who uses the mod.

You might disagree, but thats how I feel. Atleast I can say "I achieved 100% on all without using the mod" and have some pride in my title.

While it wasn't intended for permanent use, I assumed some would use it on new characters to clear zones as they went. To consider this mod as cheating is the same as saying map comparisons are cheating. The only difference is the immediate gratification the mod provide.

Even using the mod, however, you are still required to scrape the edges, go through all the zones, slaughter your way through the mobs. So of all the titles, this is still one of the more difficult to attain.
Wow, you made the mod. Nice.

To be quite honest I think people are getting worked up over nothing. I don't see any difference in comparing maps in photoshop to a mod. By running several filters you can get the same effect very quickly - the difference? Alt-Tab.

How many people can't technically run the mod as opposed to don't want to run the mod? To be perfectly honest this will make those last .1%s on maps much easier in the future, as my previous recourse was to take lots of pictures and post them here and have others run the comparison for me, because missing .1% after all that work was a pain.

Is it cheating? I wouldn't consider it cheating. However I have always considered the Eredon Terrace glitch a little cheap. I managed to get 99.9% without JQ or any of the glitches around. If I'd not got into JQ quite accidently one day - which is to say there was a lot of luck involved - I possibly would have been able to scrape that last 0.1% off somewhere after a lot more edge crawling. I think it is terrific that these tools are now available for those who wish to use them in game. No more complaining about how that last little pixel is eluding you, or alt-tabbing to a 100% version and alt-tabbing back to make an eye-to-eye comparison, or waiting/hoping for someone to finish your PS comparison.

If you consider this cheating then any form of merely looking at a 100% map is cheating too - not so say anything of the Eredon Terrace or Raisu glitches.

I find it hilarious how people are using the word “pride” in this thread. Your pressing some buttons on a keyboard in video games for some words beneath your character in outposts... What is there to be proud of? Lol

Meh, the only difference between the texmod plugin and comparing maps is that one is in game and more convenient, not to mention easier on the eye.

If anyone has downloaded or compared their map to someone else's 100 % map they're still looking at it with the help of a previous cartographer. So hey ho, everyone's lazy unless they visited every zone with no outside help whatsoever and squeezed their ass into every crack on the map till their eyes bled.

And yeh I have LGMC, but I don't begrudge other people getting it through that method at all. In fact as this thread pertains to Cantha, they couldn't have mapped to 100% without completing the game first. Cantha's compass range is a lot smaller than Tyria and it probably has the smallest leeway out of the lot. I have a big splodge missing (by the portals) on Hell's Precipice and still got 100%.

I am slightly worried about the safety of this mod. You download it off wiki, which anyone can use so someone could change it. If the OP was so outraged about this mod then why is he telling the public about it? o.O Unless the OP wants to draw attention to the mod because he switched the file with a diffrent file with a trojan so he keylog people can get rich? o.O

If you play a game for 2 years, for about 2-3 hours a night, there is nothing wrong with taking some pride in what you've accomplished in that time.

Question. How many people who got Legendary Skill Hunter look up where bosses spawn? Do you just run around the map wildly hoping that last elite you need pops up somewhere, not even knowing if you're in the correct zone?

Just because tools didn't exist back in your day, doesn't mean people should ignore them and do it "the hard way" for "respect," or as I like to call it "e-Peen."

I map while vanquishing. The mod is great to make sure you don't hurry and miss bits. I do find the vast amount of leg. cartographers a bit demoralizing though.

It's a title that doesn't affect anything for anyone. Someone else having Legendary Cartographer doesn't ruin your gameplay. A thousand Legendary Cartographers don't ruin your gameplay either. If they use an "automatic" map comparison instead of bringing screenshots into Photoshop, kudos to them for saving themselves extra and far more tedious work. You think you're going to earn more respect going "I used Photoshop for this for countless hours!"? Nuh-uh. I couldn't care less how you spent your time, or how much of that time you spent.

As someone wrote earlier, this thread is nothing but a "Why back in my day...!"

This "outrage" is hilarious.

@Toxage: TexMod is a completely safe utility. It doesn't change anything but graphics.

I think you have it down right now.

And I could care less if some other person thinks I'm lazy. I sure as hell am not gonna waste weeks going through areas finding small parts.

I do, in fact the 'Mapping Out' tool from this very forum is a joy to use. I can find out in seconds which characters need which elites, and the info is saved for me for future reference. I used to use an excel sheet to record elites before, Mapping Out is a godsend IMO.

Only have Canthan hunter so far, as I need more cash before I do the other two.

Hey, have you ever used a calculator? Or a computer for a word processor? Apply your reasoning to these.

You got LCG without the mod. Great for you. What's your complaint again? People will do things the way they want to. You can take pride in whatever you want; it doesn't matter to me or to anyone else.

On a second note, your posts are full of spelling mistakes and grammatical errors that make my eyes bleed. xD

In it the OP said that it didn't take any skill because they used texmods. However if his friends didn't use texmods it wouldn't have taken skill there either. GMC is just respected for the amount of time it takes there is absolutely no skill required. Besides you said that not finding the glitch of Eredon Terrace lessens the amount of skill required. It's a glitch that should definitely not be skill

Okay then. What mod are you referring to that does this? Because it is certainly not any of the cartography mods.
